How to Create and Edit Portal Page Content

Every Project and Post in Civify has a Portal page — the page your clients, partners, or stakeholders actually see. Civify gives you three ways to build that page: a basic Text Editor, an AI-powered Content Creator, and a drag-and-drop Content Builder. This article walks through all three, plus how to embed maps, videos, and documents.

Open the content editor

From either a Project or a Post, click the Portal page tab. This opens the editor where you'll choose one of the three content options below.

Option 1: Basic Text Editor

Best for quick, simple updates — headlines, paragraphs, and lists without any custom layout.

1. Click Text Editor.
2. Click into the main editor area and start typing your content.
3. Use the toolbar to format your text — lists, text color, font size, and more.

Option 2: AI Content Creator

Let Civify's AI generate a first draft of your page content for you.

1. Click the Civify Content Creator editor.
2. Click the prompt that matches what you're building. The AI will ask a series of questions to guide you through the process.
3. Answer the AI's prompts as they appear.
4. When you're finished, copy the HTML the AI generated.
5. Open the HTML Online Viewer and paste the HTML in to preview how it will look before adding it to your page.

Once you have your HTML, head to the next section to insert it into your Portal page.

Insert and save HTML

Use this to add HTML — including content generated by the AI Content Creator — directly into your Portal page.

1. Click the main Civify editor area.
2. Click Insert HTML.
3. Click the raw HTML input area.
4. Paste your HTML into the input field.
5. Click the HTML confirmation button to apply it.
6. Click Preview HTML to review your saved content.

Option 3: Content Builder (recommended)

The Content Builder gives you the most control — drag-and-drop blocks for headlines, text, images, and more, with no HTML required.

Important: If you already have content in the Text Editor, switching to the Content Builder can cause errors. Remove any Text Editor content before starting the Content Builder.

1. Click Content Builder.
2. Click a snippet to drag it into the page designer.

   When dragging a block, drop it into the gray highlighted area that appears beneath your existing content.

3. Click into the block and format it as desired.
4. Explore the sidebar for more content types — for example, open the Headline snippet category to add titles.
5. Hover over any block to delete it or adjust its settings.
6. Click an inserted content area to edit it directly.
7. Use the block settings to fine-tune formatting and layout.
8. Click the plus (+) button on any block to add more content nearby.

Add a map with Content Builder

You can embed any map that provides embed code — mymaps.google.com is a free tool for building a custom map.

1. Open the Basic content category.
2. Insert the Map content element.
3. Select the map you just inserted.
4. In Google My Maps, click Embed on my site.
5. Right-click the Embed this map field and click Copy.
6. Click OK in the Embed this map dialog.
7. Paste the copied map embed code into the Civify map block.

Preview and save your content

1. Click Preview to see how your page will look.
2. Click Save & Close.
3. Click Save portal content.

Save often. Civify doesn't autosave every change — save at each stage or you risk losing your work.

4. Click Preview HTML to check how the content renders on the live page.
5. Review the preview to confirm everything — including maps and other embeds — displays correctly.
6. Click Close when you're done.

Embed a video or document

Anything that provides embed code can be added to a Project or Post page — YouTube videos, Google Docs, and more.

YouTube video:

1. Navigate to the video you want to share.
2. Click Share, then Embed.
3. Copy the embed code (it should start with <iframe>).

Google Docs:

1. Navigate to the document you want to embed.
2. Click File > Share > Publish to web.
3. Click Embed and copy the <iframe> code.
4. Click Publish.

Add the embed code to Civify:

1. Go to the Text Editor.
2. Click the HTML button.
3. Paste the embed code into the HTML snippet.
4. Click the green checkmark, then click Save.
